  23. so I can't comment on that...  I'd like to see it on a studio monitor.

  25. The biggest news - NewTek will give dealers 'demo' units by the end
  26. of the month - that's September 1994.  Shipping release units at a
  27. later date...

  29. So who will have demo units in the BA?  HT?  Winner's Circle?  What
  30. about "San Francisco Video" aka Walt Davis?

  32. The clips they showed were recorded at "3 and a half" megs per second.
  33. They said most people though, will use the 2 megs per second rate. I
  34. believe they had two 9 gig Seagate Baracudda drives(?) Everything- the
  35. Toaster, Flyer and 2 hard drives - were inside the 4000. "Most people
  36. won't run it like this, they'll use external drives" was heard...  A
  37. few(?) other drives have been tested and passed.

  39. Lee said they were demo'ing old software, the same software they ran
  40. at the NAB show.  I didn't see it crash once.

  42. Paint looked okay.  They improved the palette window!  The new HAM-8
  43. screen looked great.  He painted on an image for a bit, and sent
  44. it to DV1, I couldn't tell the difference (from the back of the room...

  46. They've added a "toaster-opus" program - that's a file manager -
  47. to the Switcher screen.

  49. Time code:  Lee said it records VITC(?) if it's present in the input.
  50. Those numbers stay with the video clips - when you adjust the start
  51. and end points for that clip, you are changing time code numbers.

  53. As far as doing an "offline" - they didn't seem interested in that. I
  54. gather that they are not really interested in deck control at all.  They
  55. prefer the method of dumping as much tape to the Flyer as you can (have
  56. drive space for), go in and "set your clips", and then dump what you are
  57. not using.

  59. Sound:  is recorded with video clips.  I didn't catch whether it's one
  60. channel or two (stereo).  Lee said it was like a DAT machine.  He said you
  61. can adjust the edit points of the sound independently.  He didn't demo
  62. that though, and he didn't demo laying a 3rd (or 4th or ...) sound track.

  64. I also didn't see any _visual_ representation of the sound in the
  65. storyboard window.  That window has only the visual icons of the clips.
  66. As far as I could tell, the icons don't change at all when you edit the
  67. clips...  And my question - what frame, of the clip, does the icon come
  68. from?  What if you have 17 takes of one shot?  ;)
